The Colorado School of Mines Office of Special Programs and Continuing Education (SPACE) takes security of sensitive information very seriously.
Credit card information is not collected or retained by Colorado School of Mines. If a visitor to the SPACE Teacher Enhancement Program website wishes to pay for a purchase using a credit or debit card, the visitor is transferred to the website of our online credit card processor. All card-related information submitted on that website is transmitted directly to the processor's secure webserver using Secure Socket Layer (SSL/HTTPS) encryption. When credit card processing has been completed through the online processor, the visitor is transferred back to the Teacher Enhancement Program website in order to receive confirmation of the transaction or other information. The Teacher Enhancement Program is never made aware of any information submitted to the credit card processor -- only whether the transaction succeeded or failed.
Your Social Security Number is required for a number of reasons: 1) for compliance with privacy regulations that relate to the release of information about prior course work (transcripts) and 2) for compliance with identification requirements when granting education credits for accomplished course work. Accurately supplying your Social Security Number is essential for compliance with these requirements. Your Social Security Number is transmitted to us in an encrypted form, using the same encryption and security techniques (SSL/HTTPS) employed for online banking and credit card transactions.
Once you have submitted your Social Security Number through the webpage on which it was requested, it may be included in subsequent pages or forms served to you during your visit to this website. If so, the page or form will be sent to your computer using the same encryption technique used when you submitted your Social Security Number originally.
Sensitive personal information, such as birth date, gender, and ethnicity, is also transmitted to us using SSL/HTTPS encryption and transmission.
Your Social Security Number and your sensitive personal information are retained in the Teacher Enhancement Program database for five (5) days after submission in order to allow proper and timely processing of your registration or transcript request. After that time, all such information is purged from the database.
