What type of future do we want to live in? In our current era, the Anthropocene, human activities impact all ecologies of the planet. We will discuss the intertwined relationships of humans and the natural world. What can the novel ecologies in the rubble of post-war Berlin tell us about creating soil? If we prevent forest fires, are forests wild or cultivated? Can mushrooms tell stories? This is a hybrid course, with the first half completed online asynchronously with a curated list of books and media. The second half will be at the Gardens for an afternoon seminar with activities to take back to your classroom.
